A trainer sending out runners at a 5% strike rate over the past fortnight is probably dealing with a virus, a staffing issue, or simply horses that are not yet fit. The specific reason matters less than the pattern. I flag any trainer whose recent fourteen-day strike rate drops below half their seasonal average, and I treat their runners with extra scepticism until the form line recovers.
